Beavers' Blog

I got a new computer!! I got a new computer!!

I am actually typing on it as we  speak *Explodes with geeky computerness excitement*  I’ve had a it for a few days now, but as I’ve obviously been too wrapped up in the fact that I can be online 24 hours a day now without stealing my sister’s computer I haven’t possibly had time to blog hahahaha.

I found it on craigslist.  Seriously my new best friend.  I finally took the plunge one day and found myself immersed in so many things for sale that I was up until 2 am reading them all.  I warn you, if you are a craigslist virgin… do not attempt to go online anywhere past 8 oclock at night. :)  I had a found a few others along with this one and was e-mailing them all.  Well the first batch of e-mails didn’t really pan out as I’d hope.  There was one that I really wanted for $250 that the guy ended up selling to someone else because he thought my e-mail was spam due to my last name <_<   Man if only someone would give me their last name so I can be rid of this crazy one ;)

So I went through another look and found a few that I hadn’t really thought of.   This one, which was originally $210 and another (a compaq something) for only $150.   I talked to both guys frequantly throughout the next day.  Asking them loads of questions on them.  My sister and I were hunched over her laptop together trying to figure out which would be the better buy.  The IBM Laptop (the one I own) Was previously owned by a young man who needed the money for court costs.  He continued on to tell us that two buttons were missing from the laptop and that his dog recently just chewed up the charger.  As a result of this though… he said he’d drop it down to $100 :-O   The Compaq was previously owned by this little old man whom had bought it for his wife but it turned out she didn’t really want one and so he was trying to sell it.  This one wouldn’t obviously be in such bad shape.  Plus it was closer in distance to travel for it.  Oh no what were we going to do?!?!?!

Well all we needed to do was finally sit down with the old man and find out all the information on the computer.  He didn’t really know how to find it so I sat on the phone with him and talked him through it.  We were looking for at least a 1GH processing speed.  I didn’t even really mind if the Ram was all that bad.  But no… we should have just figured this out in the first place instead of worrying which to buy.  The Compaq only had 470MH of speed with out like 112mb of Ram.  O_o   Back to the IBM is was!!  The IBM was equipted with 1.2GH and 512mb of ram.  It does only have a 30gb hard drive.  But meh.. I’m not that bothered.

So I drove out to the middle of the ghetto, exchanged $100 cash for a computer and sped away as quickly as I could so he couldn’t change his mind.  Seriously!… seriously? $100!!! $100 for a 1.2GH processing speed!!!! $100 for 512mb of ram?!?!?!  All because a few buttons were missing, and the charger was chewed up?  I mean we found a charger on Amazon for only $17 (which really is a deal considering they’re usually like $50) but the charger he gave me worked with just a few pieces of tape here or there.  WOO!!!

So yes I finally own my very own laptop.. GO ME!!

Yesterday, guess what I did?!?!?!  I tried on wedding dresses!! *continuous girly squeal*  So I always knew I was getting married and all.  And that I’m head over heals in love with Callum and can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him.  But wow… there really is something about trying on wedding dresses that just gets you in the mood. *sigh*  I can’t really talk more about it because I’m only going to assume Callum is reading this *waves to Cal* But if you want any more details about any of the events feel free to e-mail me and ask about it :)

Yesterday was also the first buckeye game of the season. WOO!!!  The Buckeye’s won.. naturally ;)  On the other hand Michigan lost.  In truth I’m ecstatic.  Really I am.  I love watching them go down.. makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside :)  But the overly statistical side of me kicks in and I realize that by Michigan losing it has royaly brought down the strength of schedule in the Big 10.   Oh well… can’t win ‘em all.  (As michigan well knows.. hehehehe)  Oh and in other news, Tressel now makes 3.5 million dollars!! :o  I can’t wait till my brother gets that job.  Then he can pay for my whole family to come and visit me in Scotland! :)

Today I’m at my aunt Margie’s house for the holidays with my parents and adorable little niece Hannah Banana.  The house is really great because she has a wonderful backyard with a nice sized over-ground pool (4 ft deep).  The down side?  The Bees and Wasps.  *shivers*   Don’t any of you give me that look of… “Oh Jenn.. it’s just a bee”  I hate bees, and bees generally hate me.  Or as others might believe they love me as they’re always flying near me.  And today…… guess what happened?!! I got stung!! GRRR  Oh but that’s not the worst of it.  Hannah was deathly afaid of going into the pool after I got stung, since that’s where I was when I was stung.  I tried to convince her that the bees are just something to have a healthy respect of and not to be afraid of.   And that in truth she’s more likely to get stung on the porch than in the water.  At least in the water she can swim under and try to run away from them.  So I finally convinced her to get in the water.  WOO GO AUNT JENNY!  Only.. not so much.  While I wa sitting on the porch talking to my parents and my aunt.  Hannah starts screaming “Help!!”  I told her to yell that incase she slipped at all and couldn’t get back to the ladder.   So all of us jumped up and went running to the pool.  I was the first up the ladder.  But saw she was fine and not under the water at all so I was really confused.  Until somehow I realized she had been stung.  The screaming for her life thing could have been a clue :P  She wouldn’t come up the ladder at all so I had to go into the pool to get her.  Going in required me getting my jeans and tank tops all wet.   I tried to comfort her while I was in the water.  But she wouldn’t stop moving and I was really confused until I saw the huge Wasp that had stung her was ON TOP OF HER HEAD!   I didn’t know what to do, as I was horribly now terrified :P  So I tried to shoo it away but it wouldn’t go anywhere.  Then I tried flicking it but still it wouldn’t budge! It was seriously stuck on her head.   So finally there was nothing else I could do I had to dunk her to get it off.  So I tried to yell over her screaming that I was going to dunk her.  I had to do it twice until finally it drowned and was off her.  Then mom is screaming on the other side of the pool to give her hannah, since at this time Hannah is screaming to go inside.

When I finally got out of the pool I picked Hannah up right away and brought her into the bathroom and sat with her while she cried and screamed, and screamed and cried.  My aunt has this really nice sting/mos bite stuff that she gave me when I was stung.  So I put that on Hannah, which naturally only made her cry more as it’s made with ammonia.  Then as I was sitting there on the floor in the bathroom holding her drenched from both my clothes and now her I started crying!  Wow I hear a child you love that much cry and know there’s nothing you can do but hold her is heart wrenching.  What’s worse is when you start to feel it’s YOUR fault for having her feel like this since YOU were the one to tell her to get back into the pool and that the bees wouldn’t sting you.  *hangs head*  Ah well.. let’s just hope she doesn’t hold it against me.

Wow was today such a blast from the past kind of a day!!! Well first it started with taking an hour drive up to Columbus with my sister and her family. Which was so much fun being able to sit in the back with Hannah and talk ALL about my upcoming wedding. hahahahaha. That girl knows how to indulge her Aunt Jenny :P When we finally got to my parents around lunch time I convinced them all to eat at CHIPOTLE!!! *drools* Oh man it was so much better than I ever remembered it. *drools again* I haven’t had Chipotle in over 6 months. For those of you that don’t understand… I’m obsessed with Chipotle :P Chipotle is probably my anti-drug.

After Chipotle my sister, mom and I all went to go check out a venue for Callum and I’s wedding shower we’re having in November. The reason it brought back memories to me was because we went to the bowling alley that I grew up in. Where I was practically born, raised, had my first boyfriend, first date, first kiss, first job, etc… Well in truth it wasn’t the SAME one. Mr. Bills (the name of the old one in northern light shopping center) moved into the old Amos Lanes building and is now called H.P. Lanes. Which to me totally means Harry Potter Lanes. But for those muggles who couldn’t understand it stands for High Performance Lanes :P (still owned by the same guys though) The room looked amazing!! I think it will really be a lot of fun to hold the shower there. People will be able to bowl in between eating and chatting for some good fun. Also there will be arcade games people can play and if they want a selection of some beers and drinks. (I know it’ll be in the middle of the afternoon but it’s always nice to have a pint to calm my nerves. Perhaps Callum will need 5 hahahahaha.) After the bowling alley I asked if we could go past our old house on Piedmont rd. since it would just be on the way home. So that was really nice getting to see the house I grew up in with my mom and sister. I don’t think I’ve been back there with the both of them really since we left. And now with my brother having a baby, and me getting married soon it was really overwhelming to me how far all our lives have come.

What was even more amazing was going past Clown Cone. This will mean absolutely nothing to anyone but it meant the world to me. Clown Cone is a small teeney iceceam/candy store that my sister used to walk to every day with her friend when she was around 12 and then when I got older she started walking me and my brother there. I mean we’re talking when I was like 6 or 7 which would make her 16ish. I’m a bit young to remember it exactly, but walking in the shop still flooded me with emotions. Not as many as I’m sure it did to my sister. When we first walked into the shop she actually gasped a bit because the guy behind the counter was apparently the same man who used to serve her as a child. Nearly 20 years ago!! So she just had to ask him if he had worked there that long ago, and he said he did and that he actually remembered her face. It wasn’t just a line either (I say that mostly to my cynical love :P) You could see it in his face when she first walked in.

We then stopped by St. James the Less (my elementary School) to have a wee look around. We weren’t able to get into the main hallway, but when we went towards the side of the building we found a door open so naturally went in. It actually turns out that where we went in has turned into the the new main entrance into the school (I mean we’re talking that school has had the same entrance for nearly 40 years) So it was weird to see that change, but in truth I understand why they did it. We walked some of the hallways, I showed my sister where I was a TA for the preschool classes. She remembered the room being her music room so that was fun to compare. And as we looked out some door we saw something that all of us have waited near to 40 years to finally see…. A PLAYGROUND!!!!!

When we got home I helped my sister get ready for her highschool reunion. Man did she look HOT! I hope she’s having a good time, she’s still there as I write this so I have no idea if she’s having fun, or wishing she could leave :P While she was there my mom and I took the kids to the St. Elizabeth festival. That was another memory reminder as used to sit out side at Piedmont and listen to the bands that played at the St. James festival and then when we moved to the house they live in now, we could still hear the bands from the St. Elizabeth out on our front porch. I also used to help work some of the booths there when I used to be big into my catholic thingys.

It all ended sitting down in front of the TV watching the olympics with my mom (It’s what I’m doing now actually) I used to do this all the time with her. Watching gymnastics mainly, but other sports as well. And now here we are watching Michael Phelps receive his 8th gold medal. History in the making is right here. And to watch it live was crazy. Reminds me of watching the womens olympics live with my mom the year that girl (the one with the high voice) hurt her ankle yet still managed to pull off the pummel horse to secure a Gold.

All in all a really great, great day :)

“Let me see your hand!!”

August 10th, 2008

A notice in the beginning before I get started, all the pictures I am showing are for visual purposed only and obviously didn’t happen as the events were taking place :P I just made Callum go through the motions again so I could get pictures… duh. Hahahaha

So it was August 7th. The day before I was to go back over to the United States. Callum had to work that day, so I spent most of it packing up all of my stuff then heading into Glasgow to get some shopping for the family done before leaving. Callum said he would meet me in Glasgow sometime around 6 then we would eat, and do some geocaching before heading home.

He took me out to eat at some fish restaurant. (Chippy?) Which apparently everyone knows about but me. The food was good, and Callum was acting weird all night. I just figured it was because I was leaving and he was sad. So I tried to get him to lighten up a bit and smile. :) After dinner, which took FOREVER to get the bill! Seriously like 30 min no exaggeration, he took me down Buchanan St for a geocache. He actually let me try to find it this time… WOO! hahaha. Though I kept trying to go the wrong way apparently. He kept saying.. no no it’s over there. I was insistent that it wasn’t and how would he know anyways unless he cheated on the way to meet me :P He said he just read the clue already and that it’s under the box in front of Borders.

Now for those of you that don’t know, Borders is where Callum and I first met. So I figured he found a Geocache that was in front of Borders just for our last night together and how romantic and completely Callumny that was. hahaha. I found the mini magnetic thingy. Started to untwist it, pulled the paper out to get ready to write out names down on it. When I noticed it had my name on it already, and more writing that I won’t type here since it’s all mushy and I wouldn’t want you to throw up or anything hahaha.

As I finished reading it (At this point I still just thought he was being sweet and romantic) I noticed he was getting down on one knee and I started to flip out. The tears were coming faster than I could stop them. There were people all around but to me it was just Callum and I. Just when he started to fumble in his pocket for the “Ring” MY PHONE RANG!!! I shut it off as quickly as possible. (We found out later it was Sherwyn wishing me farewell, perfect timing as always hahahahahaha) We finally got back on track. He asked me and I said yes with as much enthusiasm as one person probably has. It was then that he pulled out the best part of the whole thing. A ring that can only be described at 250 carats. hahaha. It’s obviously not real :P And was only meant to say how much he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me but that we didn’t have time to actually look into a real one. I personally think it made the proposal that much memorable. *sigh*

We stood there talking for a long time. First just holding each other (me in complete shock) , then moving on to his thoughts and plans on all of events. When out of nowhere 10-12 people come out of nowhere and are all like “HEY GUYS!” It turned out to be all the people he had gone to Australia with! They were all out for a get together at some restaurant and just happened to see us hanging out so they came up to say hi. I know some of the people he went with, not all, but the ones I did know greeted me as well. So then Callum tells them “Sorry guys I couldn’t come out with you but it’s Jenn last night and all” There were some collective “Awwwww’s” Then he tells them we’re engaged and of course the first thing all the women want to see is the ring. So it was great fun getting to hold out my hand and show them the “Rock” that Callum got me. hahahaha. That’s one of the things I love about ‘US’ is we’re silly and most people don’t understand it, but we love it. hahahaha. So finally we made our way home, calling and texting people along the way. Was able to get online and find nearly my whole family in one place to let them know. (Apparently they were expecting it, as Callum had called up my parents to ask for their blessing) Called a few other family members, then cracked open a bottle of champaign and celebrated to our future.

The next day in the airport Callum and I decided I should probably have some sort of ring to place on my finger while I was in the States. We wouldn’t be able to get the real one till a bit later but I surely couldn’t hold the “250 carat” one on my finger any longer. hahaha. So we went into my favourite shop Accessorize and found a cute little silver ring with a wee diamond (fake obv) inside of a flower with a leaf on the side. I personally love as of right now. And sometimes catch myself just staring at it thinking about how blessed I truly am. *sigh* God is so good.

I ended up having a great night last night meeting Patricia, a friend from my HPSurvivor board.  That now takes my tally up to 7.  I have met 7 people from that board!! Isn’t that crazy?  Well I think it is :P  We went out for some dinner at this horrible place on Sauchiehall St.   We only decided to go there since we could sit outside. (It was absolutly gorgeous outside)  But I has some fish that was just.. ewwwww.  And Patricia had some chicken that we truthfully thought may have been a pigeon.  Hahahha.  After which we went to go see Wall-E.   *sigh* what a cute cute movie.  I would say look for my movie review coming soon, but I won’t be that optimistic.  :P   Then we met up with Dave and had a few drinks at Wetherspoons, then finally Revolution.  Ohhhhh Revolution, where have you been all my life?  It had well over 30 flavours of Vodka.  Cherry Vodka, Birthday Cake Vodka, Bubblegum Vodka, Milk Chocolate Vodka, and soooo many more!!  My absolute favourite was to get the Cherry Vodka mixed with Coke.  I mean seriously I used to adore vodka and coke.  but CHERRY vodka and coke???!?!?  I would be tempted to become an alcoholic just to drink that all the time!!!  *drools*

Patricia and I plan to meet up again on Friday and go back to revolution for a new trial of shots.  The sell this strip of 6 shots with different flavours so the 3 of us all picked two.  But since it’ll be just Patricia and I suppose I’ll have to drink 3.  Gah!  I had a headache this morning just because of the 2! hahahaha.

So as I mentioned today I had a headache.  I don’t think it helped that I didn’t go to bed until 5am and ended up waking up around 9am.   At least I was able to lay back down for a bit though but I couldn’t seem to sleep past 12, GAH!! What’s wrong with me?!?!  I’m getting old.  :P    I spent the finishing up the cleaning I started last weekend.  I was so excited to really have time to get down on my knees and scrub the bathroom.  (I heard my entire family just gasp hahahaha)  It’s been eating at me to want to sweep the floor, and wipe down the tub, and finally clean the toilet.  So wooo for a sparkling bathroom! hahahahaha.

I bought some glass cleaner this weekend so I could wipe down the mirrors and windows and such.  I hadn’t been able to really do it before cause there was non in the house.  It’s just really brightened up the flat.  Or so I think so.  Oh dear Callum is going to come home to a completely girlified Flat. hahahaha.  I’ve moved the pictures all around.  They just weren’t working where they were!! Like there was this one picture that was grayish in colour yet was up against a gray wall O_o  Tell me how that makes sense :P  And that’s the piece I have to look at every time I wake up.  So that definitely had to go.   I’ll just Tell Callum he’s allowed to change it all back once I leave in 3 weeks. hahahaha.  I’m sure he’ll think twice before leaving me alone in his flat for this long again. :P  OH!! and I’ve put fresh flowers in the rooms!

Well today I got ready to go to church, walked ALL the way there (another beyond gorgeous day)  and found out that it wasn’t happening at that church this week but at the baptist church!  Which was really disheartening because it takes me nearly 30 min to walk to our church, but the baptist church is 15 min the other way.  so it would take nearly 45 min to walk there.  There was no way I would get there in time, even if I caught a bus I’d still be 15 min late with the time frames of when the busses came.  But what even more ironic was that I needed to go to the shops, and the shops are in the direction of the baptist church!! So had I known it would have worked out perfectly.   As it was I walked an hour out of my way and when I got to the little shop (A BP station) which I just go to, to pick up quick stuff… they were out of milk! the one thing I needed!  So I needed to walk the 10 MORE minutes up to the real store.  So I finally made it to the food shop at 7:45ish.  Mind you I’ve been walking since about 6:20. :P   But on the plus size they had these gorgeous flowers there!  And for only £5!!  Thus there are now fresh flowers in the Flat.  Oh dear Oh dear… Callum may not be happy. hahaha.

Welp I need to finish up the kitchen before going to bed and surprising my love at the airport tomorrow!!! :D  If any of you talk to him before then (I highly doubt it, but just making sure)  Don’t tell him I’m coming. :)  I just can’t wait to throw my arms around him and give him a huge hug.  And then go back to bed since I have to get up at 7:30am to get to the airport in time. hahahaha.
